Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention (TCAFP)

Since its creation more than twenty years ago, the Tai Chi for Arthritis program has been supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (www.cdc.gov) plus many health departments and arthritis foundations around the world.

Millions of people globally have enjoyed the program and gained many health benefits. There are over thirty medical studies showing that it is effective for improving balance and reducing falls, as well as providing many other health benefits.

Older people are more likely to fall which can cause serious injury. Tai Chi for Arthritis has been shown by studies to prevent falls. Australian and New Zealand government departments have utilised this program to prevent the elderly from falling.

The causes of falls in the elderly include muscle weakness, poor balance and vision, lack of confidence when moving about and the effects of medication.

Many studies have shown Tai Chi as being one of the most effective approaches for preventing falls.

Tai Chi for Energy (TCE)

Tai Chi for Energy is slightly more challenging than other Tai Chi for Health programs. It is comprised of two different tai chi styles. Chen style is vigorous and complex, combining fast and slow movements with powerful spiral force. Sun style incorporates unique qigong (life energy) movements with agile stepping.

Dr Paul Lam has combined the gentle Sun style with the explosive Chen style to deliver more excitement and health benefits. These two seemingly contrasting styles have complementary internal energy forming a doubling of yin and yang balance. It may excite people who think tai chi is too slow for them, and is especially suitable for younger learners. With regular practice and in a relatively short period of time, this program will improve your health and wellness, internal energy, and ability to manage stress.

How does Tai Chi work?

Anyone who likes tai chi can benefit from participating in this workshop. An effective exercise for health, muscular strength, flexibility, and fitness. Tai chi is proven to do all of these and more. Additional benefits include stress relief, improved relaxation, balance, posture and immunity.

There are over 35 published studies (available at taichiforhealthinstitute.org/medical-studies) showing Dr Lam's tai chi programs are effective to improve many aspects of health. However, studies don't show anywhere near the full extent of benefits tai chi can bring! Such as empowering you to develop inner peace, strength and power, leading to more happiness and fulfilment.

Instructor Training

Tai chi is proven to improve immunity. It also relieves stress and improves almost all aspects of health. Teaching it will help to bring tai chi to more people, and at the same time improve your own health.

Instructor Training participants must complete the Self-paced Instructor Preparation Package (SIPP) of your chosen program (SIPP-TCAFP or SIPP-TCE) in preparation for the workshop. Each SIPP is valued at US$80 and is included in your workshop fee. All you have to do is to follow the sequence with Dr Lam’s video guides for every step.

Please read more information in the "Preparation for Instructor Training" section below.

Suitable participants include health and fitness professionals or other similar qualifications and experienced tai chi students.

Non-Instructor participants who learn TCAFP or TCE who wish to expand their tai chi knowledge and skills in an interactive and friendly environment are also welcome to attend.
